U18's play Notts County in the FA Youth Cup

This Wednesday night sees Lincoln City under 18's take part in the first round of the FA Youth Cup against Notts County under 18's at Sincil Bank with a kick off time of 7pm. Unlike County the Imps have had to navigate the qualifying rounds to get to this stage of the competition.

Both sides have struggled in the Youth Alliance North East league so far this season, Notts County are propping up the table with just five points from their opening nine fixtures whilst Lincoln are fairing only slightly better sitting just two places above County with seven points but an inferior goal difference of -14 from their opening nine fixtures.

To get to this stage Lincoln City firstly had to beat Lutterworth Athletic away in the preliminary qualifying round, a match they overcame easily with a 9-0 scoreline. The goals in this game came from Everington, Simmons, Weaver (all two a piece), Rice, Leggett and Taylor.

The first qualifying round saw the Imps once again on their travels this time against Blaby and Whetstone. The goals in this encounter cam from Everington, Weaver, Taylor and an impressive hat trick from newly professional striker Jordan Thomas.

The second qualifying round saw the Imps in their first home tie of the competition against Mansfield Town at Sincil bank. This was another easy victory for the young imps beating the stags by an impressive score of 8-1. The goals in this match came from Bowles, Robinson, Rawdon (2) and a another impressive performance saw Thomas get four goals.

The Third qualifying round saw the imps travel to Ilkeston, but once again they came away with a victory, this time a fairly comfortable 4-1. The goals for this match came from Simmons, Taylor and another double from Thomas.

Tonights match should see the imps encounter their sternest test of the competition so far but I do think the young Imps will come out of the this match with a win and a second round match against the winners of Hartlepool United and Fleetwood Town at Sincil Bank. Notts County haven't had a good season so far and haven't had a confidence boosting Cup run to fall back on like the Imps.

Both play at the same level yet Lincoln have had to play three games to get to this stage and County none. Doesn't seem right that.

It is due to their club being in League one and our side is in non-league. Does seem odd though for this competition.

Genuinely think its unfair and believe this should be changed for future FA Youth Cup competitions.

Three qualifying rounds does sound a bit excessive. I think it would be more appropriate to play one qualifier, keeping more in line with the full competition
