Imps face Braintree this Tuesday

This Tuesday night sees the Imps take on Braintree Town at Sincil Bank in the Conference Premier Division. The two sides have struggled so far this season and are only separated by goal difference, Lincoln have played a game more than Braintree and sit in 19th but both teams will feel they are far too close to the drop zone being only one point above Kidderminster in 21st place. As such this match is a huge match with three points vital for either side if they want to climb away from the bottom end of the table.

Braintree come into this game with an unexpected and hopefully unwanted rest after their FA cup match against Tranmere was called off for a waterlogged pitched on Sunday. This match was due to be televised live and could have cost the club a fair amount in lost revenue. In this fixture last season the sides played out an exciting (defenceless) 3-3 draw. Braintree have indifferent form coming into this match, just two weeks ago they beat second placed Luton away from home. This result was only their first win in nearly two months though and Alan Devonshire may well be feeling his side is suffering from second season syndrome after finishing 12th last season.

Apart from the Luton result scoring goals has been a bit of a problem for the Iron and this has resulted in a run of many low scoring draws and defeats. Daniel Holman is their most likely scorer with 6 goals so far this season and he Imps may feel that if they can shut him out of the game then the chances of conceding will be greatly reduced.

Lincoln City come in to this match full of confidence after a superb draw against League one Walsall at the weekend. There are expected to be no further injury worries for manager Holdsworth and could use Oliver in attack alongside Taylor to offer the impressive front man more support and relieve some of the pressure on him as a lone front man.

This will be another tight game and the Imps will want to start picking up wins, especially against teams around us in the table. Although we have been much improved of late I do think this will end in a draw as Braintree are a tough side to play against and won't make it easy for our side in front of a home crowd that is more positive after recent performances.
