Imps take on Hereford this weekend

Imps take on Hereford this weekend

This weekend sees the now nine matches unbeaten Imps take on Hereford Untied in the Conference Premier at Sincil Bank. Lincoln City secured their place in the Second Round of the FA Cup on Tuesday with a 3-2 victory over League One Walsall after extra time. Both sides come into this match on the back of good runs of form and as such it should be a very even encounter.

Hereford currently sit just above the Imps in 9th place in the table with 26 points from their 18 game splayed. The Imps on the other hand lay just 3 points behind in 13th spot. Hereford are new to this league this season after they were relegated from League two last season, so far they have adapted fairly well on the pitch to be in contention of a play off spot.

Hereford come to Sincil Bank with a number of former Imps in their ranks. Kyle Perry, Sam Clucas, Josh O'Keefe and Joe Heath have all played for the Imps in the recent past. I think it is fair to see they all had rather forgettable careers with the Imps. It is the second time this season that former striker Perry will face the Imps at Sincil Bank, he made a late sub appearance when we beat Nuneaton town before he moved on Loan to the Bulls. Hereford have a few players who can cause the Imps problems and Ryan Bowman has scored 9 goals so far this season in attack and as such I am sure David Holdsworth will be looking at ways to nullify his impact on this match.

Bulls manager Martin Foyle on the other hand will have to plan against an Imps side that is on a brilliant run of form and in my opinion Jamie Taylor in attack will be highlighted as our main threat, even when he doesn't score he creates space and chances for others and has been hard for other teams to keep quiet in recent matches and has become a key player for the Imps this season after an injury hit time stop start season last year.

For Holdsworth I would once again expect him to pick the same starting eleven and 4-2-3-1 formation that we have adapted so well to for this match. There are no further injury problems for the Imps except for long term absentees Bore and Duffy. John Nutter left to go on loan to Woking this week and there is a chance that trialist striker Adam Boyd could be signed up in time to take part in Saturdays match.

This will be a very close match with both sides enjoying a good run of form but I do think home advantage will aid the Imps and I don't think we will lose, a narrow win for the Imps for me, 2-1. Worst case with the way we have been playing lately is a draw; we out played and out fought a side two leagues above us on Tuesday I just hope that extra time didn't take too much out of our players. But there has been a number of days rest to recover so it should not be regarded as much cause for concern.
