This weekend will see the Imps try to get back to winning ways against high flying Newport County at Sincil Bank. The Imps have slid down the table slightly in recent weeks after stuttering in form and on Tuesday night they crashed to a poor 4-2 away defeat to Southport. New port have also hit a rough patch of late with a 5-0 loss at home to Forest Green followed up by a 1-1 draw at home to top of the Table Wrexham on Friday evening.
David Holdsworth once again will have a high number of injuries to contend with for this match against one to the best sides in the league. Added to the Injuries Jake Thomson, who is on loan from Newport, is ineligible to play. Adam Smith is also serving his final match of his three game ban for his red card away to Grimsby on New Year's Day. With Mills and Fofana out with injury it is likely our midfield really will be a patched up job! Whilst there is still time to add to the squad it is looking unlikely with less than a day to go now that we will be able to.
Newport on the other hand will be boosted with the return to fitness of defender Ismail Yakubu. Danny Crow and the captain David Pipe will also be fully available to Justin Edinburgh. Newport's new signing, winger Robbie Willmott, could be involved against the imps but he is likely to be introduced for his debut from the bench rather than throwing the England 'C' international in from the start.
The last encounter between the two sides saw the Imps lose 2-1 back in August in the second match of this season. The Imps were victorious mind in the same fixture last season winning 2-0 at Sincil Bank in March. A repeat of that result would be a fantastic achievement for David Holdsworth this weekend. As a result of all the injuries and recent form of the Imps Newport County are firm favourites to come away with all three points this weekend. Sadly I can't see anything but a strong, title chasing Newport , winning this game.
