Lincoln City v Forest Green preview

This Saturday will see the Imps take on high flying forest Green at Sincil Bank, should the weather continue to improve. This will be the first match for the Imps since the 12th January when we were well beaten 4-2 at home to Newport County.

This brief winter break could well have helped an injury hit Imps squad to rest and recover before facing a side up in fourth place in the table. The encounter between these two sides earlier on the season ended in a comfortable 3-0 victory for Forest Green broadcast live on Premier Sports.

The break in play could see the Imps have Scott Garner, Peter Gilbert and Mo Fofana return to the match day squad after they have missed match lately due to injury. Fofanas presence in midfield in particular has been a big loss for the Imps and David Holdsworth will be keen to see him return to action as soon as possible. The experience of Gilbert at the back would be another boost should he be fit enough to return to one of the best footballing sides in this league. New loan signing Jake Jones will be in contention for a start on the wing but it is likely with the options available he will start on the bench and hope to get his chance to impress from there.

Forest Green come into this match with a shorter break than the Imps, their last match was a 2-1 defeat away to lowly Stockport on the 19th January. Their midweek encounter with Hereford united was a victim of the freezing conditions. They are enjoying a brilliant season so far and will be looking to come to Sincil Bank and get back to winning ways, it will be up to Holdsworth to devise a strategy to make sure the Imps are a lot tighter at the back then we have been of late.

With the break in the season it is difficult to judge this match on form, although with the injuries and quite frankly awful individual errors it is difficult to see anything but a Forest Green victory. With heavy snow forecast over night there is still the chance that this fixture could also fall foul of the winter conditions.
