Highest Ever Position?

Highest Ever Position?

-02 - Lincoln City achieved what has proved to be their best ever League position to date - that of fifth in the Second Division. The Imps also reached the last 16 of the FA Cup again yet another achievement never seen since! They lost to Derby County in controversial circumstances. If you think you know the circumstances go to the Forum thread to discuss!

-05 - Lincoln City made it to the last 32 of the FA Cup but were beaten by Manchester City for whom the legendary Billy Meredith scored the only goal.

-08 - Lincoln City along with Stoke City are relegated out of the League, there being only two divisions in the Football League at that time. The Imps finished bottom with only 21 points from 38 games and were replaced by Chesterfield.

-09 - Lincoln City do the double. They win the Midland Counties League and the Lincolnshire Senior Trophy. The success in the Midlands Counties ensures a return to the Second Division.

-11 - After just one year in typical fashion the Imps are relegated from the League again having finished bottom of the Second Division for the second time in three years and were replaced by Grimsby Town!

-12 - Lincoln City were the Champions of the newly formed Central League. Many people are convinced this was possibly the best team Lincoln ever produced. Players that season: Fern, Jackson, Wilson, Robson, Gardner, Wield, Manning, Cubbin, Miller, Batty and Brindley.

-13 Lincoln City return to the Second Division replacing Gainsborough Trinity.

-15 Games were played behind closed doors to ensure workers concentrated on producing weapons and munitions for the war effort.

- The Football League programme was suspended because of the First World War.
