Reaction to Grantham defeat

Reaction to Grantham defeat

Here's what some of our members said after the 2-1 defeat away at Grantham Town yesterday

'Given that conceding twice against Harrogate had everyone panicking about signing defenders, I dread to think what the reaction to this defeat will be. But friendlies are such an inaccurate barometer of a team's potential, because of trialists, new signings, the non-competitive element and so on.

Clearly the defence needs a few more additions, but I'll reserve further judgement until I've seen my first game of the season (which will be the Middlesbrough game next weekend).'

'Oh dear, what a poor performance today and my local team deserved the win. Far too much pointless playing it around at the back with no end product and only one shot on goal in open play. I am good friends with the Grantham president and this is the second year on the trot he will be able to take the mick out of me. Oh well, lets hope it was just one of those games.'

'Have to say that I found yesterday pretty pointless. Lifeless display from an Imps team that did not appear to have any shape or plan. Several players still look very good as individuals but it is now time to look to get a settled starting line-up and a settled style/pattern of play. Big concern for me is the playing about at the back and then not being able to find an outlet through the midfield. Happy to see more 'football' being played but really needs to be more integration between the back 4 and the midfield. Two poor goalkeeping errors led to the Grantham goals one by Farman and one by the lad with the ponytail. Foster is a player I would like to see signed. Not sure how bad the injuries are to those not playing today, we may just be being careful with them. If that is the case then it may be time to take them out of the cotton-wool because as I say we now need to look to put a settled team together prior to Woking away. We have a tough start to the league campaign and we cannot afford to go into the early games of the season half-cooked. Funny thing from yesterday is that 3 of us went in together and we could not convince the girl on the turnstile that we were not concessions. She insisted on us only paying £6. Could understand it with the other two but I am only a young lad!! Taxi............'

'We have conceded in every game so far so thats four games if you count the Chesterfield one. Would be happy to see a more settled backline start the nearer we get to the Woking game but obv we still have knocks to several defensive positions. Its not the be all and end all with losing yesterday though the performance sounded pants, but maybe a reality check isnt a bad thing and shows where we still need to try and improve our squad?'

'It wasn't very good overall yesterday but there were some bright points - Foster looks accomplished - sign him on Simmo; Dixon looks a good acquisition; Wright very pacy; Robinson looks as though he has matured a bit and looked bright when he came on - but the rest were fairly ordinary on the day.'
