Lincoln City v Hyde

Lincoln City v Hyde

This weekend sees the Imps return to Sincil Bank as they face rock bottom Hyde in the Conference Premier. The Imps impressive start to the season has stuttered of late with two successive defeats away to Luton and then Hereford pushing the Imps down to 11th place in the table with 17 points from the opening 11 games. Hyde on the other hand have managed just 2 points from their opening fixtures, they have lost their previous 6 fixtures and are staring at a long season at the bottom of the table.

Scott McNiven must know the task he has will be one of the hardest he will face, already after around a quarter of the season Hyde see themselves adrift at the foot of the table, 6 points behind Chester and 8 points off of the safety of 20th place. They will be desperate to pick up a win and I hope their first one of the season doesn't come this weekend against the Imps.

Lincoln City have only faced Hyde twice in their entire history, with both results ending in victory for the Imps, a 5-1 win away to Hyde on the final day of last season and a 3-2 victory at Sincil Bank in September. The Imps manager Gary Simpson will be hoping that Lincoln will take this opportunity to score a few goals against a side that is rock bottom and has already conceded 26 goals, an average of nearly 2.5 per game.

For this game I am hoping the Imps will finally play a more balanced and adventurous side going forward. Tomlinson needs more width around him, not just from the full backs, so that our attack can really stretch the opposition defence. Power has impressed in the 'number 10' role and I would like to see him stay there with Fofana and Nolan behind him. Rowe and Fairhurst can give the side more firepower supporting Tomlinson. One thing we do lack is creativity, especially if Power is not in his best position in the middle, resulting in few chances, as shown in the majority of games we have played so far.

This should really be a return to winning ways for the Imps as Hyde have been woeful this season and look destined to be the first side to be relegated this season following a winless opening 11 matches to the season. I predict, or hope for, a convincing victory for the Imps with a 3-0 score line being enough ot not only get three points but also excite the crowd.
