'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Preview: Lincoln City V Braintree Town

By Jamie Earls:

After Tuesday night's disappointing defeat to Welling United, Lincoln City will look to get back to winning ways on Saturday as they face play off chasing Braintree Town at Sincil Bank. This will be the visitor's fourth game in 7 days after an enforced winter break has created a monster run in.

The Imps were lacklustre on Tuesday night in the defeat to Welling, so Gary Simpson will look to make changes to his starting eleven. Tom Miller has finished the second game of his automatic suspension, so he should come in for the unfortunate Dan Gray, who didn't do a lot wrong last time out, but unfortunately is competing against the Imps most reliable performer for a start.

Todd Jordan is a second likely change in the city engine room coming in at the expense of Jon Nolan, after the fiery midfielder failed to make an impact against Welling. Conner Robinson and Alan Power are both struggling with knocks, so Jake Sheridan and Danny Rowe may come in with city having two games in the space of five days.

Braintree are currently flying high in the Skrill Premier League and find themselves sat in 11th place. They currently sit five points behind the playoffs, but have at least 5 games in hand on the sides above them so will fancy their chances of a trip to Wembley, should they do the double over the Imps in the next 2 games.

These sides have already met once this season with Lincoln getting the upper hand on the Essex side in the FA Trophy, but they will face a more difficult opponent this time around. One positive though is Braintree should tire as the game goes on, with no less than 8 starting players playing both Tuesday and Thursday already this week, and if the Imps are patient, they should have a big advantage in the later stages of the match.

Three points would give City the magic 50 points that is usually enough for survival, and would allow boss Simpson to experiment in the final games of the season to see who he would like to keep and ship out. Knowing the Imps though they will need a few more weekends before that can be carried out.
