Basford United 4-3 Lincoln City

Last night Lincoln City lost in a pre-season friendly 4-3 away to Basford United. The City goalscorers were Tomlinson, Simmons and Burrow.

The hosts were the first to strike, with a Marc Goodfellow free-kick from around 25 yards out beating Paul Farman, but City responded quickly and Tomlinson made it 1-1 from close range.

On the half-hour mark the hosts went 2-1 up. A scrambled goal saw the ball go into the back off the net off Imps Defender Nat Brown. The Imps responded, Burrow was denied by the keeper and Simmons was there to finish off and make it 2-2.

Shortly after the hour mark Nightingale made it 3-2 to Basford, but The Imps responded again, this time Burrow was the scorer to make it 3-3.

The final goal of the game was scored by Goodfellow, giving us a final score of Basford United 4-3 Lincoln City.

City Line-Up: (4-3-3): Farman, Miller, Brown, Jordan, Newton, Everington, Meadow, Mendy, Tomlinson, Simmons, Burrow.

2nd Half: Farman, Trialist, Trialist, Diagne, Newton, Hollingsworth, Biggins, Power, Tomlinson, Burrow, Robinson.

Reaction on the forum:

Monkeypooler: "I would be more worried if we conceded 4 goals with our first choice. 11 out there. But there were a number of trialists and players changed around. Look at positives.. Our strikers found the net. No serious injuries AND more fitness work.."

Impish: "Get where you are coming from, but I was worried before tonight. We need a decent partner for Brown. Looking at the signings so far, I get the impression Simmo is hampered by the budget (no surprise after he mentions it often enough!) it doesn't seem to me we have the same quality in the ranks compared to last pre season? I know there is plenty of time to go yet and expect we will add to the squad, but that's just my take on things as it stands now."

BrownImp: "I think it's important to remember that the players have done little or no work on the technical aspects of team shape and stuff, and it's very unlikely that they'd have done anything in terms of defending set-pieces. There's still plenty of time for the defenders currently at our disposal to gel and form a decent unit, and the last two games will be in no way reflective of how they'll fare come August. Having said that, I'd definitely break the bank for Audel!"
