Lincoln City maintained their unbeaten start to the Vanarama Conference Season at Moss Lane on Tuesday night, with a comfortable 2-1 victory against the recently promoted Conference North side Altrincham.
After Saturdays stalemate against Kidderminster Harriers at Sincil Bank, boss Gary Simpson kept the faith with the same eleven as Saturday, as City looked to open up their away wins account in Greater Manchester.
Lincoln started the half on the front foot and were ahead very early, when a short corner caught the Altrincham defence napping, and Sean Newton's dangerous left boot found Jordan Burrow at the back post to nod home the opener. This was the former Stevenage strikers first goal of the season, and so far has looked a very shrewd signing.
City were piling all the pressure on, and should have doubled their lead moments later when the same two Imps players combined, but Burrow couldn't find the back of the net, instead rattling the post.
Altrincham finally came to life at the mid-way point of the half, with keeper Nick Townsend forced into a good save from Sean Williams. City then had another good chance, as Hamza Bencherif found a sight of goal from all of 25 yards, but Coburn was equal to his effort.
The second half began with the home side finally taking the initiative, and they should have equalised through Steve Gillespie, after his ambitious curling shot smashed back against the City crossbar with Nick Townsend beat.
Ben Tomlinson's season hasn't started quite how the City talisman would have hoped, and he was removed on the hour for fellow striker Connor Robinson, as The Imps boss looked to put the game to bed.
This substitution proved to be inspired, and with ten minutes left of the game, Sean Newton worked his magic again down the left flank, to pick out Robinson at the back post, who smashed his volley into the net, much to the jubilation of the Imps fans who had made the long midweek trek.
The goal all but wrapped up the three points for The Imps, but a late mix up between Townsend and Diagne allowed Reeves in to score a consolation goal for the home side, all be it in the last minute of stoppage time.
The Imps now face a tough test on Saturday at the Hive, as they face table toppers Barnet. Four points from a possible six though proves they will be no pushovers, as they look to go one better than last year in North London, after late drama secured City a late late point.
