Imps head to York in Trophy

Imps head to York in Trophy

With their historic trip to the Emirates Stadium far from a distant memory, Lincoln City travel to York tonight for the first leg of their FA Trophy semi-final as they embark on their quest to add Wembley Stadium to the growing portfolio of glamour grounds visited in 2017.

Following a battling performance against a team crammed full of world-class opulence, in front of nearly 60,000 fans in north London, the Imps return to the rigours of non-league football tonight, looking to put one foot in the Trophy final and set up a dream end-of-season - and first-ever - trip to the home of English football.

Backed by a vociferous 9,000 fans - and then some - on Saturday night in what was a most fantastic occasion, around 2,000 City supporters will be at Bootham Crescent tonight hoping to witness a similar display to the one in November, when the Imps crushed the Minstermen 4-1 in a top-notch show.

Buoyed by the news of midfielder Alex Woodyard penning a one-year extension with the club, Danny Cowley will be employing his 'Lizards', with many of Saturday's side expected to be given a hard-earned rest after being given a second-half runaround by Alexis Sanchez and company in their gallant 5-0 defeat.

Goalkeeper Paul Farman may stand aside for the first time this season, with on-loan Doncaster stopper Ross Etheridge poised for his debut and he could be joined by recent arrival Riccardo Calder, who will most likely replace Sam Habgergham at left-back, while the likes of hat-trick hero Lee Angol, Billy Knott, Elliott Whitehouse, Callum Howe, Jonny Margetts and Joe Ward will all be pushing for starting berths. Jamie McCombe may also be employed to negate the impact of big striker Jon Parkin, who caused City's backline a fair few problems the last time these two teams met.

York may be battling for survival in the lower echelons of the table, but they showed at Sincil Bank recently that they are certainly no pushovers and given a welcome break from trying to maintain their existence in the highest rung of the non-league ladder, they could be tricky opponents tonight for a Lincoln side heading out on the road for an incredible 10th time in 13 matches.

City could also cement their place at the top of the table despite no points being at stake tonight, with title rivals Forest Green and Tranmere having to overcome tricky assignments away at Sutton United and Torquay respectively.
