Magpies swoop for Hawkridge

Magpies swoop for Hawkridge

Terry Hawkridge will forever be ingrained in Lincoln City folklore after scoring the goals that finally sealed the National League title for the Imps, but the 27-year-old winger has now swapped the red and white stripes for the black and white variety after joining near-neighbours Notts County on a two-year deal.

Out of contract at the end of a truly momentous season, Hawkridge was offered a one-year term by boss Danny Cowley, but the talented winger rejected the offer for a more lucrative financial package at Meadow Lane and will line up against his former side in League Two next season.

He admitted agonising over the move, but felt his heart lay at the club from his home city, saying: 'It was a tough decision to leave Lincoln, but I feel I have unfinished business here having been released as a kid. I am buzzing.'

Hawkridge tripled his league goals tally for the season with that famous brace against Macclesfield on April 22, while he was also on the mark in the 3-2 win against Oldham in the FA Cup. But he only started 24 games in the National League and with another 'bit-part role' season looming large at Sincil Bank, he has opted to attempt to further his career under Kevin Nolan with the Magpies.

Also leaving the club today were Taylor Miles, Alex Simmons, Kegan Everington, Andrew Wright, Jenk Acar and Elliott Hodge, who have all been released, while there are offers on the table for Callum Howe, Jack Muldoon, Adam Marriott, Alan Power and Richard Walton.

Mystery, though, surrounds the future of Bradley Wood, whose name did not appear on any of the 'lists' produced by the club, with the likelihood of him still being a Lincoln player next season looking increasingly unlikely.
