** There is no point moaning about Akinola. Leaves us with the smallest squad in the Football League. The players are disappointed, especially those who knew him from Braintree, but rules are rules. Might be back in for him in January, but football is a fluid game and things change quickly. Very disappointed for the player himself because it might affect him and his career. He wanted to come, and was desperate to sign. Was very disappointed on Tuesday when Danny told him the transfer had not been approved.

***** We were not able to get the Akinola transfer done despite everything being agreed by 8pm and all the paperwork done by 10pm.*****

** Transfer deadline change: DC would welcome it for a number of reasons. Shut the window on the eve of the season.

** Bostwick & Woodyard are top players, ideal if we want to play 4-4-2. They really enjoy playing together.

** Sam Habergham has had a good week and is very much in contention for Saturday. However, Neal Eardley has done a superb job in his absence - you wouldn't know he was right-footed, but we need a left-footed player in that position. Will be great to have Sam back defensively and offensively. Having a selection problem is a nice one to have. No difference of opinion between management team over who plays and who does not.

** Ginnelly trained today (Thursday) and should also be in contention for Saturday.

** Quality of squad much higher this year despite limited numbers. Last year we had a number of younger players who were out on loan, and the disparity between them and the better players was a large one. No such disparity this season.

** There are negatives to having a small squad [of 19 players] but it does enable you to get more detail in. Need to keep everyone fit. Need to have a siege mentality.

** Having a small squad opens the door for the youth team players, but we need to make sure they are ready for the opportunity. Playing them too soon can have ramifications. Trying to fast-track Ellis Chapman, who is training with the first team on a daily basis. But he is only 16.

** It has been a quiet, slow start compared to last season in the National League when we played a lot of games in the first couple of months.

** Honoured - if a little embarrassed - to have received the university award. An honour and a privilege. Accepting the award on behalf of everyone who contributed last year.

** Stevenage at the top on merit, they are a good side. Expects them to stay there. Really good players, good summer recruitment. Have players who run for the team. Will need to be at our best. Play 4-4-2 but look like a 4-3-3 when playing at home because they play slightly higher on one side, and slightly more tucked in on the other. Very experienced back four.
