Preview: Notts County v Lincoln City

Following on from last week-end's local derby at home to Mansfield, we now face our first away derby at Meadow Lane, home of Notts County FC. It will be the first time we will have played there since the 2009/10 season when County did the double over us; 0-3 at Sincil Bank on 29 September 2009 and 3-1 at Meadow Lane on 13 April 2010. It seems so long ago doesn't it? Our last victory there came on 20 December 2008 with Adrian Patulea netting the only goal of the game on 32 minutes. Interestingly, future Imps Jamie Clapham and Delroy Facey lined up against us that day.

This season has seen County surge up to second place in the table with an unbeaten seven game run (six wins and one draw) since their opening day bashing at the Ricoh which saw them lose 3-0 against Coventry City, and they are now just three points and one place behind table-topping Exeter City. Whereas both sides have conceded seven goals in the league so far, County have scored three more (13) than us (10) so not a great difference there. This could suggest a closer scoreline than might be expected. Both sides have played away to Wycombe Wanderers and at home to Morecambe with very different outcomes. Lincoln drew 2-2 at Wycombe and 1-1 at home to Morecambe whereas County won 2-4 at Adams Park and 2-0 facing Morecambe. Drawing from those two results alone should indicate a home win for the Magpies this coming Saturday, especially as the Imps are fresh from their first home defeat in 364 days. Any other season and I might agree with that indication, but this is a different Lincoln City to the one which succumbed twice to our opponents back in 09/10. I expect the lads to come out firing on all cylinders and with the enormous backing of well over 4,000 fans we can take a draw from this game, if not a sneaky win. I have a feeling that Knott may start ahead of Rhead with Green up top, Anderson on the right and Ginnelly on the left. We'll soon see.

Personal fact: Notts County's Meadow Lane was the very first away ground I visited when my dad took me there in the mid-sixties; I think it was early February 1966 and we lost the game 2-1.

This time, I am going for a 1-1 result with the possibility of a famous 2-1 away win.

Keep the faith!
