End Of Year Message 2017

End Of Year Message 2017

And so we arrive at the end of what must surely be the most incredible calendar year in the history of this 133-year-old club.

Promotion back to the Football League against prohibitive odds, an eleventh championship title, the first appearance in the quarter-final of the FA Cup by a non-league club for over a century and the first ever for Lincoln City... you know the rest. To continue the rollercoaster ride, City end the year in the automatic promotion places in League Two with the smallest squad in the top five divisions (yes, every club in the National League has a bigger squad than we do). Attendances have risen from 2,500 to 8,500, and some of those new-found fans are even posting on Vital Lincoln City now. Who would have believed any of that twelve months ago?

Further to City being the best-supported club in League Two, Vital Lincoln City is the best-supported board in the Vital family, and we should be very proud of that. It enables us to contribute financially towards the club's wellbeing of course, although that is far from the sole purpose of the site.

To put some numbers in the frame, Vital Lincoln City attracted 12,184,560 clicks in 2017, which equates to earnings of just over £3,250 for our club. The forthcoming home games against Swindon and Crewe will be sponsored by Vital Lincoln City, and that is a fantastic achievement.

Over the past five years, total earnings amount to £10,101 (Vital Football income only). I wonder how many match balls, training kits and pre-match meals we paid for during that time? There are numerous people who have been cornerstones of the site for a considerable period and deserve a mention: Jules, David, Alex, Stevie, Notty, Rasen, Luke, Salford and more... you know who you are. Not only have you all helped to sustain the club through the leanest of times, the support carries on regardless of our very recent and unexpected success. The fact that this site exists at all and continues to flourish is a success story in itself. Anyone can jump on a bandwagon and claim to be a lifelong supporter once success shows its face: to show support when the club is losing to Carshalton and North Ferriby is the acid test, and this site was there throughout.

But what next? What we cannot afford to do is sit back and assume the job is done. Just because the club has money in the bank does not mean it does not need every bit of support it can get. Attendances may be at their highest for 56 years, but we must continue to contribute.

Now comes the appeal: we would like to increase the number of clicks of course, but we would also like to do it in the right way. We do not wish to become like certain other club fan sites out there, full of trashy threads and general illiteracy. To that end, we would love to receive new regular features and articles from our members. Impalex writes his match previews, Unbelieveablejeff contributes the occasional article, Merthyr has his programme feature, but we need more. If you have any ideas for regular features or even for bespoke one-off articles, please let Jules ( know. The more we can increase the provision and frequency of those articles, the more people we will attract to the site and the more money we will raise for the club. What you contribute is up to you, and we are hardly expecting journalistic excellence. So why not have a go?

Let's continue to show why Vital Lincoln City is the best fans' forum out there, and leave the rest further behind in 2018.

Total Paid To LCFC In 2017: £4,500.
