Lincoln City OS:

"The Checkatrade Semi Final was decided by penalties after an exciting game at Sincil Bank, City had taken the lead through skipper, Luke Waterfall but the visitors equalized just six minutes later. The game went to spot kicks and after Sam Habergham's penalty was adjudged to have not crossed the line, Chelsea got in front but after Ethan Ampadu hit the post then Ryan Allsop saved from Jacob Maddox, the scene was set for Frecklington to blast The Imps into the final of the Checkatrade Trophy.

Under the lights at Sincil Bank in front of a packed out crowd the game got underway with the volume from the Imps supporters almost deafening. City pressed early on and Danny Rowe was the first to get a shot on target, Marcin Bulka got down smartly to save. The Imps won a corner which was attacked at the back post, Matt Rhead and Elliott Whitehouse both had shots blocked, the latter having his cleared off the line before Rowe smashed one just wide. City's pressure was incessant in the early exchanges and the visitors had Nathan Ampadu to thank as he just got in the way of Matt Green who was winding up to hit a volley from inside the box. Whitehouse ran to meet a Green layoff on the edge of the box but that was blocked and it screwed just wide, The Imps then had a chance when Bulka raced off his line, but Michael Bostwick couldn't get his effort on target in what was a dominant opening by the home side. Neal Eardley then lashed a shot just off target after being teed up at the edge of the box."

Chelsea OS:

"Luke Waterfall's thumping header had given the hosts a second-half advantage in front of a near-10,000 crowd but that lead lasted just five minutes as Daishawn Redan spun in the box and fired a fierce drive in from 10 yards following impressive creative work from Callum Hudson-Odoi.

It was a mature defensive performance from a side with 10 teenagers in the starting team and we battled and blocked until the end of a bruising encounter. The shootout swung both ways, with the Blues initially handed the advantage after a Lincoln miss but Ethan Ampadu and Jacob Maddox were denied from 12 yards as Lincoln booked a first ever trip to Wembley."

Match Reports - What The Newspapers Say

Lincolnshire Live:

"The first half was completely dominated by City with Chelsea barely even getting out of their own half as they struggled to cope with the Imps' mix of high press and directness.

The first chance of the game fell to Danny Rowe. The tricky winger went on a good run but could only fire straight at Bulka in the Chelsea goal.

City kept on asking questions of the Blues' defence. Matt Rhead forced a terrific save from Marcin Bulka while Elliot Whitehouse's follow-up was agonisingly cleared off the line. Harry Anderson picked up the Chelsea clearance but could only steer his effort wide."

Wembley beckons as Imps win penalty shoot-out

"Chelsea's Checkatrade Trophy dream ended in heartbreaking fashion at Lincoln City's Sincil Bank on Tuesday night, as they fell to defeat on penalties following a 1-1 draw, and were denied a trip to Wembley to play for professional silverware.

Under pressure all night in the face of a fiercely-competitive home team and crowd, the Blues battled bravely, showed character and spirit beyond their tender years, and even managed to recover from going a goal down to Luke Waterfall late on when Daishawn Redan hooked home to set up a tense penalty shootout. They couldn't quite finish the job, losing 4-2 after five rounds of spot kicks, but they gave it a right old go, and can be proud of their efforts."
