I caught the Maidenhead V Pools match on BT Sport (I'm not interested in the Premiership crap). Dave Tarpey of Maidenhead looked good, 40 plus goals last season and 3 this season already. Looks good in a big man, small man set up and was a constant threat today. The caveat would be the Pools were woeful and must be careful if they don't want to be York Mk II.

He's very much southern-based and not sure he would move north.

Pretty sure Tarpey works in finance in 'the City', and is one of those, like Reeves of Alty, that makes far too much money outside of football to be tempted by FT.

On BT Sports yesterday, they said he was an engineer. But, point taken with his two wages he'll be on a decent screw salary wise. I suppose it will come down to where his ambition lies, whatever he does as a day job if he is academically and professionally qualifed he can always return to that job if he gives being a full time footballer a go.

My previous posts were tongue in cheek, I wasn't advocating the Imps make a bid for Tarpey but rather perhaps that is where the club should perhaps be looking.

Hartlepool were truly woeful against a team that will be harbouring an ambition of a mid-table finish at best. If they are not careful, they may well be the next Stockport and York.

Have Hartlepool lost all 3 of their league games now?

To answer my own question, they've lost 2 and drawn 1. Not a very auspicious start...

Wonder how much longer Amond will want to stop at Hartlepool????
Amazed he's still there.

From what I saw Amond huffed and puffed but was generally ineffective, but he is in a poor team. The second goal for Maidenhead was defending of the lowest order - a square ball on the edge of the box, that said Tarpey finished it brilliantly.

Dave Tarpey will not be moving north. He is the local hero down here and at lower league level is an accomplished natural goal scorer. He has lived in the Reading/Henley area for much of his life. If he was desperate for League football, Oxford or Wycombe would be the obvious choices.

Does Maidenhead qualify as the least 'football town' in the country? Isn't it Cruella's manor?
