Nearly 8000 for a Tuesday night home game against Cheltenham. Amazing.

Even more amazing considering the game was made ticket only (no cash on turnstile) yet Eventbrite (at 6pm) were only selling SW block 3 tickets of which there were about 10 left.

No other tickets on sale for other free blocks in SW......but no PoTD either.

I guess we think we have enough fans already

That aside- stunning turnout.

These are the sort of games you need to win 1-0. Not great, but as has been said, we dug in and did what we had to to get the victory.

Wharton was excellent tonight as was Allsop, who looks very assured between the sticks. Terrific goal from Eardley, although not sure about Pett. But as Danny said afterwards, he has been signed during a heavy schedule and hasn’t had enough time to get on method.

Rheady looked a bit leggy tonight and was ineffective. Are the games catching up with him? Williams may be a better option or give Palmer a start as he looked lively again tonight.

Also, nice to see Clive Nates at the game tonight.

Did anyone else notice Danny a couple of times or so rush to get the ball which went into touch and throw it back to the Cheltenham players? A peculiar thing to pick up on maybe, but nice to see some sportsmanship displayed when most managers deliberately ignore the ball when go goes near them or just roll it along the floor to the opposition.

Proper battle tonight and they had some big units deployed to match up to our pressing and physicality. Thought we just edged it in terms of overall play with both keepers making a couple of tidy saves apiece and Eardley proving to be the difference. On stats we got two bookings? I must have missed them.

Really? Your not alone - I didn't see any of our players get booked. A couple spoken to but the only bookings were two Cheltenham players as far as I saw on i-Follow.

Just looked on Sky website and it didn't show any bookings but Red Imps site did - maybe a typo hopefully to be corrected.

A game we needed to grind out and win given our congested fixture list of late.

1 defeat in 17 now? If we can obtain 4pts out of the next two it will be a terrific set of results.

7880 in attendance keep embracing what the club are trying to achieve by backing them to the hilt. More than County and Mansfield combined.

Thoughts.

Count the Cliches

Well now, as Kerr Avon from Blake's 7 would say, what a game for football purists to avoid.

An up and under, harem scarem type game. A game that separates the men from the boys. On a pitch that looked heavier than one of Geoff Capes' thighs we truly ground that one out.

A very combative, direct game and I thought we tackled Cheltenham well. Their team looked as big and wide as a group of Russian female shotputters and thensome.

A bright opening foray to start the game with the ball getting stuck in the mud to prevent Green from opening his account and Rheady looked like he was being outmuscled by Giant Haystacks and Big Daddy at time.

It was not pretty...but by god did Lincoln rise up to the challenge that the Shotputters launched their way.

A superlative strike in first half injury time flew across into the net, like a cannon ball fired from Nelson's Flagship HMS Victory. Hardy did not need to kiss anyone and Lincoln emerged worthy leaders at half time.

The second half begun and Lincoln dug in more than a troop of school children on Skeggy beach. My word was that a battling performance. Yes we could have finished them off....but those shotputters continued to muscle and hoist themselves forward and it was very edgy. More edgy than when James Vince comes to the crease. If this were a cricket match, then there would have been a full cordon of slips, legs apart - waiting for a tickle. It was that edgy.

By and large we needed to win that, and we did. A sterling performance and that lad Wharton is a superb find. Allsop commanded his box, like Darcey Bussell at The Royal Ballet. Superb...

So to cap it all off...a great night. Not one for purists...but a gritty endeavour that would have made Churchill proud.

So all that is left to say is...

It's goodnight from me, and Mini Jeff says...."It's goodnight from him."

Uti

If Rhod Gilbert did reviews of football matches.....

Rheady has never been in the line up for his movement but agree that the last two games (Cheltenham and Cambridge) he has not been at his best and seems to be running on empty very early in the game- may be time to give him a rest for a couple of games.

My only concern from tonight's win was the goal came from a defender and the attacking line up (Anderson, Rowe, Green, Rhead, Palmer, Pett) just need to fall back into scoring form.

I thought we played overall better than DC seemed to suggest during his radio interview but he is the gaffer and he understands his team better than anyone

All ticket didn't mean you couldn't turn up on the night, it just meant you had to buy a ticket from the ticket office first.

That was Neal Eardley's first goal since 26 November 2011 when he scored for Blackpool against Birmingham in the Championship.

The one before that was against Everton in the Premier League a year earlier.

Thought Wharton, Eardley, Bossie and Green were all superb. Allsop looking sound and much calmer than Farms it has to be said.

1 defeat in 17. Excellent stuff.

Wish we could have taken another of our chances before their late flurry so I didn't have to be checking the clock every 30 seconds, although to be fair in the final minutes our game management was good.
Alsopp continues as Mr Cool, even learned to get injured. Wharton was effective, if a little ungainly at times. Pett did better than Cambridge, did drift inside a bit but had two or three decent runs and was busy. Not a bad 1st goal for Mr Eardley !
Danny spent a long time applauding the fans after the game
Notice he is saying the pitch is taking it's toll on the players and contributing to our injury list. Maybe some of the money towards an overhaul in the summer.
