Waterfall Plans To Flood Grimsby

Waterfall Plans To Flood Grimsby
Luke Waterfall started his career after joining Barnsley as a youngster. The defender went onto become a regular youth and reserve team member.

Following the 2007/08 season Waterfall was released but was quickly snapped up by Tranmere Rovers. Waterfall made his first appearance as a Rovers player during a League Cup tie against Grimsby Town where he came on as a 63rd minute sub. Unfortunately Rovers were defeated 2-0 but this didn't stop Waterfall from striding forward as a professional. On the 2nd September the six foot two defender made his first start for the club in the FL Trophy in a 1-0 victory over Accrington Stanley.

Waterfall made a switch to Conference side Altrincham on a loan deal where he made one appearance before being released by Tranmere. After unsuccessful trials with Oxford City and York City, the Englishman signed with Conference North side Ilkeston Town. 38 appearances later and only being on Town's books for a year, Waterfall secured a deal with Lincolnshire side, Gainsborough Trinity.

Waterfall made over 100 appearances during his time at Trinity but left three years later, following former chairman Peter Swann to Scunthorpe United. During his time at The Iron, the former Red youth player was loaned out to Macclesfield Town and Football League side, Mansfield Town.

A move to Wales followed as Waterfall signed an 18-month contract with Wrexham following his release from Scunthorpe United.

On the 2nd June 2015, the defender signed a two-year deal for Conference side Lincoln City and became the eighth signing for Chris Moyses' new look Lincoln side.

You started your career at Barnsley. How did you find your time at the club?

I really enjoyed being a youth at Barnsley, I had some of the best times I have ever had in full time football there. It's a bunch of your mates playing footie together, you can't beat it!

You signed your first professional contract at Tranmere and made your debut against Grimsby Town. How do you feel about playing Grimsby in the Lincolnshire Derby this season?

I can't wait to play Grimsby in the derby. I can imagine it's a great atmosphere. I played against them for Scunthorpe and it was brilliant in front of 8000 fans!

Loan deals have played a part in your career, how do you feel loan deals help players develop?

Loan clubs are definitely great for players to go out and play games. They can prove themselves at a new level if they are not playing much at their parent club.

How did you find the Football League in comparison to the Conference divisions?

I didn't find League Two to dissimilar too the Conference to be honest. I think strong, organised, hardworking teams tend to do well, and it shows that when teams who get promoted rarely struggle in League Two.

After making over 100 appearances for Gainsborough, was it hard to leave the club in order to play in the Football League?

Yes it was hard to leave Gainsborough, I had three great seasons there and made some good friends, but I had to move on in order to go further with my own career.

Do you think your time at Scunthorpe could have gone any better?

Obviously I would have liked to have played more games, but it wasn't to be. Scunthorpe helped me as a stepping stone with loan moves to Macclesfield and Mansfield, and then transfers to Wrexham and now Lincoln.

Did Peter Swann play a part in your transfer to Scunthorpe?

Peter Swann obviously played some part in me and Terry (Hawkridge) going there, but the old manager and assistant who was at the club at the time had also watched us for Gainsborough so they knew all about us.

How did you find joining Wrexham after loans at Macclesfield and Mansfield?

I enjoyed my time at Wrexham, it's a good club, and we got to the FA Trophy Final at Wembley.

You join Lincoln City on a two year deal, how do you think the 2015/16 season will go for The Imps?

I'm looking forward to the coming season! I think the club have signed some very good players and I am sure we can have a good go this year and get up there!

You are one of eight new faces at Sincil Bank, how do you plan to settle in with the other new boys?

I know a few of the boys at Lincoln anyway. Nat Brown lives local to me, and I know Matt Rhead, Lee Beevers and Liam Hearn from my time at Mansfield, so there will be no problems fitting in at all.

We're trying to raise more money for the Football Club.
