Gijsbert Bos - Former Imps Star Names His Career XI

Gijsbert Bos - Former Imps Star Names His Career XI
Another addition to the Career XI series see's former Lincoln City striker, Gijsbert Bos name his best side.

Bos started his career off at Dutch side, IJsselmeervogels where he later returned in 1998/99. Lincoln City signed the striker in 1996 for a fee of 10,000, where he went onto make over 30 appearances for the Lincolnshire club. A loan move to Gateshead in 1997 followed before Bos signed for Rotherham United in a permanent switch in the 1997/98 season. After another loan to Walsall, The Dutch striker returned to IJsselmeervogels. Gijsbert Bos played his final years at clubs including, SV Huizen, Nunspeet, GVVV, SDC Putten and VV Eemdijk.

'As a player I played along with some characters'

The best manager was Jim Platt of Gateshead in 1997.

In goal there's Barry Richardson, the reason why needs no explanation as he is still active for Wycombe at the age of 45.

Back Four:

One of the four defenders is Jon Whitney (Lincoln 96) he was strong, quick and a nightmare to play against. The second is Rob Hopman (Ijsselmeervogels) (95+99), with a height of 2.04 metres, he was strong and had the best defensive header I've seen in my life. My third defender is Alan Knill, He was the only international I've ever played with (Rotherham 97/98 - He played for Wales). He was the best organizer and natural captain as well as a team player. Finally I pick Kevin Austin (Lincoln 96/97) he was very athletic, quick and strong.

Middle of the park:

A Midfielder of four. First on the list will be Gareth Ainsworth (Lincoln 1996/97) he was quick, strong and as a winger scored 20 goals that season, he was manager of the season in League Two this season (2014/15). Second must be Terry Flemming (Lincoln 96/97) he was as big as a mouse but strong and quick like a panther. Moving onto the third midfielder, this will be Gerard de Nooy (Ijsselmeervogels 95+99), probably the best player I ever played with, he could win a game on his own (with a bit of help from me of course). Finally the fourth midfielder is Melvin Donleben (SV Huizen 1999/2000) he had quick feet and could score goals whilst he was very technical he should have made more out of his career.

The two best partners upfront who I enjoyed playing with included Lee Glover (Rotherham 1997/98), He was a natural leader and a prolific goalscorer. Last but not least would be my little brother Dennis Bos (Ijsselmeervogel 1995+99), he was talented, technical and one of my best friends, he is still in football as a coach in Dutch Amateur Football trying to make his mark.

Subs Bench:

Goalkeeper: Rob Hilbers (Ijsselmeervogel 95),

Defender: Steve Holmes (Lincoln 96)

Midfielder: Trevor Berry (Rotherham 97),

Striker: Paul Proudlock (Gateshead- on loan 1997)

Striker: Paul van Noort (Eemdijk 2005).
