Average Player Ratings v Port Vale (h)

Average Player Ratings v Port Vale (h)
Back to winning ways. We have yet to lose three games in a row under the Cowleys, although there have been a few twos along the way. Matt Green notched his first goal in 17 games, and Luke Waterfall scored his first goal in the Football League for City and only the second of his career. The only negative was the crowd - where have 1,000 supporters gone all of a sudden? Some were even trying to sell their tickets on Banter, although that possibly tells you as much about Banter as it does anything else. I hope the stayaways were sitting at home kicking themselves all afternoon. I have no idea what some people want.

Taking top spot this week is midfield man-mountain MICHAEL BOSTWICK, whom many fans feared we would not see in an Imps shirt again for some time. Fortunately the hamstring strain appears to have been transitory - or imaginary - take your pick!

"Completed more passes on the ground, hard into the tackles, had a shot from outside the box, scored a goal. Tough competitor and just what was needed on the day." (berksimps)

"Electric performance and what a shot! Got a real close-up of his intensity yesterday. Lovely meaty challenges." (syimp)

"Immense, especially as he looked only at 80%. And I have said before a class act that we cannot do without." (elkimp)

Speaking of players we are delighted to have back from injury, HARRY ANDERSON takes second place after another terrorising performance on the wing. League Two defenders certainly hate pace and strength coming at them - let's hope League One or Championship defences don't get the chance to test themselves against him come the New Year.

"Unplayable at times with strength, pace and power. Irreplaceable as a forward threat as usual." (johnolbe)

"Brilliant. His sole aim when he gets the ball is to cause maximum damage to the opposition. There's none of the ineffective tricks or silly step overs you get with many wingers, just direct, strong, fast running with the ball and it's mighty effective." (APHLCFC)

"Always a threat." (robbochops)

And speaking of a man-mountain, here's another one in third place. MATT RHEAD has received few opportunities recently, but returned to the starting lineup with a vengeance.

"Those Port Vale centre backs will need a good rest. Won what was hit at him, got an assist, ran around (!!!), should have had a penalty, and obviously wound them up." (Dreaming of McAuley)

"Had a fantastic game, defensively and offensively. Negated Pope from corners, headed one off the line, won almost everything in the air, had one cleared off the line, should have been given a penalty. We look far more organised, controlled and more threatening when he starts." (takeyourblueshirtoff)

"Bust a bit more of that gut and put himself about more. More running, more pressing. Possibly he has had a rocket about getting involved, and movement. Makes him far more effective." (nlondonimp)

The average team score of 7.04 was the third-highest of the season behind the home games against Carlisle (7.17) and Morecambe (7.06).

Every player exceeded the par score of 6.0 for the first time since the win over Barnet.

1. Michael Bostwick 7.75

3. Matt Rhead 7.57
