Average Player Ratings v Stevenage (h)

Average Player Ratings v Stevenage (h)
Momentum is building, City are up to third in the league and second in the form table behind leaders Luton - New Year's Day promises to be quite a battle. City are the only team not to have conceded a goal in December, and are about to complete the month with a home game against the only team not to have scored a goal - our old friends from Nailsworth. Bottom of the form table sit Accrington, whose form has been terrible due in large part to two defeats to Lincoln. Momentum is so important in the general scheme of things, and so is the opposite - just ask Forest Green and Accrington.

Taking top spot for the first time in his Imps career is MATT GREEN, scoring for the fourth home game in a row. If ever there was a confidence player...

"Confidence is everything with Greeny and he has it in buckets at the moment. A great hard working performance and a goal." (berksimps)

"Pace and running power that Stevenage couldn't handle. Assist and a good finish for his goal. Playing and looking more like Theo at his best of last year." (johnolbe)

"Ran his socks off, held the ball up well and very much a threat and end product." (hulloutpost)

"Seems back to his early season performances. Lovely finish for his goal." (Luke Imp)

In second place comes MATT RHEAD, leading the line like the Rhead of old. And yet the supporters of the other twenty-three League Two clubs persist in calling him a pub player. Perhaps they would like to tell us which pub team has a Rhead playing for it, and we'll go sign him too.

"Seems to get better as the season goes on. Not only is he a bustling physical nuisance, but he also has some deft touches and the eye for a defence-splitting pass." (syimp)

"Very deep second half but dangerous throughout, some fantastic balls to Green including the goal!" (Rasenimp)

"At the centre of everything going forwards, winning nigh-on every header despite being double-marked, and setting up numerous chances and good positions for us. We struggled to retain the ball in their half once he'd gone off." (takeyourblueshirtoff)

"An excellent performance with so many deft touches and through balls to Green in particular." (Impalex)

In third place, and worthy of a special mention anyway, is MICHAEL BOSTWICK. Ill since the Newport game, he deserves a 6.0 for simply making it onto the field.

"Made Green MoM but since read how affected by the bug he was - monumental performance under the circumstances." (Chesterimp)

"Puts in 110% every week. Full on tackles. Must frighten opponents when they see him looming in front of them roaring at them." (GreenNeedle)

"Clears up lots of lose stuff, very dependable, improving his out ball more." (impsimps)

"Bostwick is becoming (for me anyway) a star player who is the shield for the back four." (StrangelyBrown)

The average team score of 7.25 is the second highest of the season. Every player comfortably achieved the par score of 6.0.

1. Matt Green 8.18
2. Matt Rhead 8.00
